Sustainable Fishing

Good fishing practices

We invest in the research and application of our “Track & Trace” system, which transparently records our fish journey, from fishing to the final production stage.

We collaborate with the independent, global, non-profit organization MSC Chain of Custody, ensuring sustainable management of fisheries through:

  1. Sourcing fish from fisheries strictly adhering to regulations, with our permanent company representative at their facilities
  2. Separation from other, non-certified fish
  3. Quantity tracking
  4. Full transparency and traceability of the supply chain

We respect fish reproduction periods, pausing fishing during winter months.

Sardines / Anchovies

Fishing is carried out using small purse seine vessels equipped with encircling nets that do not harm the seabed, as well as stow nets.

We source only sardines and anchovies that meet legal allowable catch size.

Tuna

We exclusively source skipjack tuna, one of the most abundant and sustainable tuna species in the oceans.

Our tuna is sourced from all oceans, complying with geographical and seasonal regulations to ensure healthy fish populations.

We respect protected species and do not source bluefin tuna (Thunnus Thynnus), as it is protected.

Fishing is conducted with encircling and stow nets, methods that do not harm the seabed or coral ecosystems, while minimizing unwanted catches.

All tuna products carry the dolphin-safe certification, ensuring fishing methods do not harm dolphins.

Strict Supplier Criteria

We only select suppliers who use fishing gear that is harmless to the marine environment and nets with permitted mesh sizes to avoid juvenile fishing and reduce discard quantities.

We collaborate only with legally registered fishing vessels that fish more than 300 meters from the coast, with permanent representatives monitoring these vessels to ensure traceability and sustainability of the supply chain.

All tuna suppliers for TRATA are members of the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF), a global non-profit organization that includes environmental and non-governmental organizations (such as WWF) and major tuna processing and marketing industries worldwide.

We only work with suppliers who are not listed in the international list for illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

We exclusively collaborate with suppliers who participate in organizations dedicated to sustainable fishing or the protection of marine ecosystems, such as ISSF and MSC (Marine Stewardship Council).

All tuna product packaging is labeled with the dolphin-safe logo, certifying that all regulations for dolphin protection were adhered to during the fishing of the tuna by our suppliers.
